Samata Biswas
Teaching

In the Departments of English, variously at Haldia Government College, Bethune College and now at the Sanskrit College and University, I have taught courses and texts across all periods of British Literature, different categories in Postcolonial Literature as well as film and popular culture.

In recent years, I have tried to specialize in teaching courses and texts related to colonialism, enslavement, partition, popular culture, caste, and gender.

Some of the courses taught by me at the Sanskrit College and University are:

  1. Gender Studies through Women's Writing
  2. Research Methodology (with special emphasis on interdisciplinary research methods)
  3. Queer Studies
  4. Disability Studies
  5. Indian Writing in English and in Translation
  6. Partition Texts
  7. Diaspora Literature
  8. Body Studies (as part of Ph D Coursework)

With the Calcutta Research Group I have curated three online courses. They are

  1. "Reading Refugees, Reading Migration: An (Online Orientation Course for College and University Teachers": Find the recordings here.
  2. Making and Unmaking of Cities: Find the schedule here.
  3. An Online Course on Urban Futures in South and South East Asia: read more about it here.

Apart from this, I regularly lead a module on "Media and Migration" at the Annual Research and Orientation Workshop in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies, conducted by the Calcutta Research Group.
